Total Professions was set up with the aim of bringing professional bodies together to encourage and inspire the career aspirations of all people, whatever their background. It is the first major collective professional body initiative to respond to the lack of awareness of the work of over 300 professional bodies which, in the UK have over 4 million members.

Our key audiences are students (both at school/college and at university) and careers advisers, providing targeted information and guidance to increase awareness of professional careers and initiatives. We have a focus on fair access, and came together partly in response to the 2009 Government report, Unleashing Aspiration from the Panel on Fair Access to the Professions. The Panel commented:

Bright children from middle class families as well as those from poorer backgrounds are missing out on top professional jobs. Many professions are working hard to put this right but their efforts need to be intensified.

Total Professions is run by The Membership Organisation, which was set up to help increase awareness of the activities of professional bodies.
